175 years ago on the 9th July 1846, Cornwall’s worst mining disaster struck East Wheal Rose Mine in St Newlyn East. The mine flooded following a tremendous thunderstorm and downpour of rain and 39 men tragically lost their lives.

To mark the 175th anniversary we have restored the memorial to those who lost their lives that is situated in the centre of St Newlyn East village alongside the war memorial.

With Robert Lawrence, Monumental Mason’s help we’ve bought the stone back to life so that it can commemorate the event for another century.
