Great news for affordable funerals

Some of you may have seen in the local press that there was a price increase that affected services at Penmount Crematorium and Cornwall Council (Cormac) managed cemeteries earlier this year. The press reported on how this was going to impact bereaved families at their time of need adding to their financial burden and the ever present issue of growing funeral costs.

I am so pleased to share with you all that I have addressed this issue with the management of Penmount Crematorium on behalf of the community and the bereaved. Mrs Cannan, Bereavement Services Manager at Penmount has addressed and presented my feelings and findings to Cornwall Council and in turn today it has been announced that competitively priced Direct Cremation Services and Off Peak Funeral Services will now be available* enabling us to offer more cost effective funeral services to our bereaved families.

This brings Penmount in line with the other two service providers in the county and brings us great joy as we as Funeral Directors and our community have always been loyal to Penmount, our local crematorium, and facing growing financial pressure, we can remain to do so.

Cornwall Council Burials, which for Newquay people, means services at Fairpark Cemetery and St Columb Minor Churchyard amongst others in the county, remain unaffected.

My thanks are owed to Susan Cannan, Bereavement Services Manager, Sarah Greet and other colleagues from Penmount Crematorium for enabling me to present my feelings and that of the community and championing change on our behalf.

All the best

Laura
